First Impressions and Future Assignments

I have to admit, I'm a little shocked. It has been several years since I took an online course and the organization and requirements for this class are quite different than what I have experienced in the past. I enrolled in this course thinking that weekly work would involve reading a prescribed number of pages from both the Ramayana and Mahabarata texts and then a series of postings would be mandated from what we learned from the reading assignments. Feedback to other student posts would be obligatory. I assumed that, perhaps, a weekly quiz would exist. I enrolled in the course with a very basic understanding of what the Ramayana and Mahabarata texts are and a desire to learn more about them. This class has already given the semester an early plot twist.

I am not complaining. In fact, I am intrigued. Despite the fact that the coursework expectations have been clearly expressed, I am left very curious to see where this course will take us. At this time, I feel like I have a decent level of understanding on HOW to deliver the assignments, however, I am left without a reliable expectation of WHAT the assignments will teach me. I find the storybook concept a creative way to force students to be mindful of the lessons being learned in a personal, intimate manner. This course has my attention and my curiosity. I'm left wondering if the approach to teaching for this class isn't, in itself, an expression of the philosophy of the Indian texts. I look forward to seeing where it goes.
