Shi Shi Beach: One of My Favorite Places
One of My Favorite Places
I have many favorite places. Their order is usually dictated by where I am at the moment that I think of them. In this moment, I am sitting very comfortably in my home office longing for the sound and the smell of the wild pacific.
Shi Shi Beach. My favorite place to interface with the mother ocean is at the edge of Olympic National Park in northwest Washington State. It is accessible by a trailhead on the Makah Tribal Reservation that leads along a two mile trek through the lush rain forest before descending down a steep slope to the beach below.
Shi Shi beach stretches for several miles and is defined by high mossy cliffs giving way to frothy waves crashing around weathered rocky points. Hikers can camp on the beach but must beware of the cantankerous raccoon seeking mischief in unsecured tents and the rogue sleeper wave sliding up the sand to surprise unsuspecting campers.
Many interesting items can be found while beach-combing, but nothing quite beats seeing a young lady meet the Pacific for the first time.

Hi Joshua!
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of the beach! I am not necessarily a fan of nature, but I do love the beach! I like the feeling of the sun on my skin and the sound of the waves! One of my favorite places is Kualoa in Hawaii. It was one of my favorite places I have ever visited.
