Temples
Temples as a choice for a Storybook topic are almost
obligatory considering I am studying Architecture. I am a little embarrassed to
admit, however, that I know very little about Indian temples in general. But that
is another great reason for taking this course! Besides, temples are the
product of the stories that they are built upon. Arguably, the temples of a
belief or faith are the most credible location to seek the knowledge of that
belief or faith. In this way a temple can be a setting for a story or a non-personified
character in a story. A contemporary example of a place playing a character
role would be the island in the television series, Lost.
Birth Stories
Where temples are a good source of knowledge for a belief
system, birth stories are literally the beginning of each narrative that builds
into a belief system. This seems to be a logical point of departure for a storyline.
Rewriting a birth story allows a storyteller the maximum control over the story
itself.
Geography of the Ramayana
I believe that to really understand somebody or something, one must understand
where they come from. To better understand the stories in the Ramayana,
understanding the geography that gave birth to the stories could be an
informative key to understanding depth for those stories.
Yoga
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is something that my wife
practices regularly and I entertain when I need to stretch out an relax. While
she doesn’t claim to be a yogi, she understands yoga and its history way beyond
my understanding. Perhaps using yoga as a storybook subject could be an opportunity
for me to enhance my personal growth inside and outside of academics. Perhaps a
story could be told of one or more of yoga’s fundamental principles from the
point of view of a meditation vision.
